Legislation passed through the House of Assembly

Today the Tasmanian Forests Agreement Bill 2012 that will allow facilitation of the Agreement between the Reference Group of Signatories – Tasmanian Forest Agreement 2012 – passed through the House of Assembly. The legislation was first tabled in Parliament on the 21 June 2012 and was designed as a facilitative Bill to allow for the implementation of any agreement between the Signatories. It has now been amended to allow for the specific implementation of the Agreement.

The Bill provides wood supply guarantees by amending to the Forestry Act 1920 and establishes a special process for reserving land, identified by the Reference Group of Signatories under the Nature Conservation Act 2002.
